Pont Marie

A Ponte Marie, uma das pontes mais antigas de Paris, liga a margem esquerda do Rio Sena à Île Saint-Louis. Esta recebeu o seu nome do engenheiro que propôs a sua construção, Christophe Marie, em 1605 e tinha como finalidade aumentar e ajudar na urbanização da Île Saint-Louis. Mas a mesma só viria a ser construída anos mais tarde, tendo demorado cerca de 20 anos a ficar concluída. Algum tempo depois foram construídas casas em cima da sua estrutura, e em 1658 as mesmas ficaram destruídas, havendo inclusive cerca de 70 mortos, com as inundações desse ano. Mais tarde foi construída uma ponte de pedra de modo a substituir a estrutura danificada. Uma das curiosidades desta ponte é que apesar de possuir vários nichos, os mesmo nunca foram preenchidos com as estátuas que supostamente deveriam ter.

Marie Bridge, one of the oldest bridges of Paris, connects the left bank of the River Seine le Saint-Louis. This received his engineer's name who proposed its construction, Christophe Marie, in 1605 and aimed to increase and assist in urbanization of le Saint-Louis. It was later built a stone bridge to replace the damaged structure.
