Pom Pom Island Resort

A 45 minutos en lancha rápida desde Semporna, el Pom Pom resort es una de las mejores opciones en la zona, a nivel de alojamiento, restauración, y se queda en tercer lugar para bucear, después de Sipadan y Mataking. La isla tiene sólo dos resorts, el Pom Pom de lujo y hay otro para mochileros. El Pom Pom tiene varios tipos de alojamiento, todos ellos a escasos metros de la playa. Yo estaba en una villa hexagonal en madera, muy bonita y cómoda, con ducha exterior al regresar de la playa y tumbonas privadas para tomar el sol. Otras opciones son villas palafitos construidas sobre el agua, y villas elevadas sobre el suelo, que son más frescas y aireadas y tienen mejores vistas sobre el mar El director es de origen italiano/holandés, y quizás por ello el nivel culinario es altísimo a pesar de ser buffet, pero todo lo que probé, sopas, verduras, pescados, carnes, estaba delicioso, con mención especial a los postres, un tiramisú para chuparse los dedos, ¡¡en una remota isla de Borneo!!. El centro de buceo está bien gestionado por varios italianos y malayos, con dos buceos por la mañana en bote, que van a las islas de la zona dependiendo del tiempo y las corrientes, y varias opciones para la tarde, a las 3 pm, 5 pm (sunset dive) y 7 pm (night dive). Están terminando de construir un espectacular spa, el Ying Yang, con especialistas traídos de California, que promete ser una de las atracciones principales del resort, con baño turco, sala de masajes, jacuzzi al aire libre, circuitos de agua, paseo de piedras, etcétera.
