Poiana Sibiului Church

1 review of Poiana Sibiului Church

Worth a visit

Poiana Sibiuluiis a high village near Jina, the highest village in Romania. It's main church is Roman Catholic, and is the center of town. The church square is used for meetings of the villagers, and once a week, there is the Poiana market. While most of the churches in the region were built as a fortification for residents to have a safe haven in case of invasion, Poiana Church is "open" and hasn't got any walls around. Having seen what it took us to get to the village, it is not surprisingly a place that nobody wanted to attack or invader, it is just too difficult get there, let alone to conquer.

When people go to church, they wear their best clothes and the men wear a small round hat. Poiana Sibiului is also a beautiful wooden church erected in the eighteenth century that deserves a visit.
