The epicentre of Guarda's historic hub
The Plaza Luís Camões or Praça Velha (old) is the historic hub of Guarda. From here, following the Rua Francisco de Passos, you come upon the Jewish district, but not before passing the Church of San Vicente. On the other hand, if you take the Rua S. Miguel de Alarcão, you reach the Castle with its 1056 metre tall vantage point. Eastward, on Rua do Comerco, is the pedestrian shopping street, and at the end of this the Church of Mercy. The large square is bordered by short homes, most with porches. The imposing Cathedral, with its Gothic and Renaissance styles, and curious bell towers, is what stands out the most though.
