Recordemos que en 1930 Juan Vicente Gómez ordenó que cada pueblo tuviese en su plaza la imagen del Libertador, Simón Bolívar, que sería financiada por el Estado. Cuando las autoridades solicitaron al Estado los recursos financieros para su construcción, esta ayuda fue negada y sus habitantes no se quedaron de manos cruzadas: Si bien existe una estatua ecuestre de nuestro Libertador, Simón Bolívar, ella fue donada por los guatireños en 1930. Entonces, preguntamos de dónde provenía el nombre de la plaza, y nos contaron que tiene que ver con la fecha en la que se constituyó una Junta por el doctor Ramón Alfonzo Blanco, el padre Jacinto Soto, Manuel Hernández Suárez, Elías Centeno, Antero Muñoz, Régulo Rico y Pablo Antero Muñoz, entre otros, quienes acordaron erigir la Estatua, remodelar la plaza y construir un hospital que llevaría el nombre de Santa Marta (por la ciudad colombiana, donde murió el Libertador).
