The PITT RIVERS MUSEUM won the award, along with the Natural History Museum in Oxford, as the Most Family Friendly Museum, in 2005, awarded by The Guardian
The Pitt Rivers Museum, is a museum which specializes in archaeological and anthropological collections taken from Oxford University. It was founded in the year 1884 by General AUGUSTUS PITT RIVERS, who donated his collection to the University, and in return he was named permanent lecturer in Anthropology. The original donation of 20,000 pieces, has today reached 500,000, with the contribution of travelers, scholars and missionaries. The permanent team of this fantastic museum, participates in the teaching of Archaeology and Anthropology in this famous university. It is organized in a very didactic way, the pieces are displayed very impressively and it is therefore very popular with not only by tourists but also with schools and many English families.
