The painter's youth
Barcelona's Picasso Museum is located on Montcada street, in the neighborhood of El Born. It is a lovely Gothic building of the 13th century displaying more than 3,500 of the painter's works. There are only a few famous works, it mainly shows those of his youth. The museum opened in the sixties. The entrance fee is now 9€ and the museum opens from Tuesday to Sunday, between 10 am and 8 pm.
You first enter a room showing Picasso's first works, when he was around the age of 13. During that period, he discovered painting and painted classical stuff like landscapes, the sea, his vacations, etc. Picasso then went to Paris and settled for a few months in Montmartre, with other painters of the period, he acquired a more modern and abstract style. It is very interesting because you can follow this evolution in the different rooms of the museum.
