The market place

The second most important square in Brno is Zelny ter, better known as the market place, dominated by the imposing tower of the former town hall, dating from the fifteenth century, which is accessed through a fine Gothic porch. At the center of the square stands the fountain of Hercules, in the Baroque style, which shows the greek hero fighting with some monsters and two theaters, including the National Theatre in Brno, where he played Mozart as a child. Not far away you can reach the Convent of the Capuchins in the crypt where you can see the mummified bodies of monks, who were buried instead of being simply placed on the ground and through the air very dry, were mummified.
