Piazza Matteotti

Una bella piazza che in passato si chiamava Piazza del Sopramuro e che ancora oggi, dalla terrazza panoramica sul retro (all'uscita delle scale mobili che fanno scendere fino al minimetrò e alla stazione Pincetto), si può godere una splendida vista sulla città e sulle colline circostanti (nelle belle giornate la vista spazia addirittura fino ad Assisi). Proprio questa sua posizione particolare la rende un punto fondamentale dal punto di vista strutturale per Perugia. La piazza infatti è stata ampliata sui terrazzamenti che risalgono al 1247 e che avevano inglobato le mura etrusche e successivamente i terrazzamenti trecenteschi che poggiavano su quattro enormi arconi di via della Rupe.

A beautiful square which in the past was called Piazza del Sopramuro and that even today, from the rooftop terrace at the back (at the exit of the escalators that do go down to the station and minimetrò Pincetto), you can enjoy a wonderful view of the city and the surrounding hills (on fine days the view extends even to Assisi). Just this particular location makes it a key point from the structural point of view to Perugia. In fact, the square has been expanded on the terraces that date back to 1247 and that had engulfed the Etruscan walls and the terraces after the fourteenth century which rested on four huge arches of Via della Rupe.
