Experience Philippine history with a great view
The remnants of what could have been a majestic mansion are what can be found at People’s Park in the Sky, sometimes known simply as People’s Park. Construction of the mansion began during the reign of former Philippine president Ferdinand Marcos, who wanted to expedite the process when former US president Ronald Reagan announced he planned on visiting the Philippines in the 1980s. With Marcos eventually overthrown, the palace was not finished. Today, what remains is deteriorating and is open to the public. Although it’s rotting away and not really maintained well, it’s nice to come here to see a piece of history. Plus, it has some panoramic views, so be sure to bring a camera. The park is located at the top of Mount Gonzales, so it’s a good idea to wear some comfortable walking shoes. There are also jeepneys available to take you up for about 40 pesos.
