Count Sancho Garcia defeated the Arabs
The first evidence of its construction dates back to the beginning of the 10th century and the first news mentioning it are from the beginning of the 11th century when the Count Sancho Garcia defeated the Arabs and declared, "from now on, this will be the most faithful place in Castilla," which is where the city's name originated from (peñafiel = faithful group).
The castle is built in a boat-like shape which shape was adapted to fit the narrow hill on which it sits. The Provincial Wine Museum is currently locked in the castle.
