Peak Union
Peak Union is the highest point of the gorge of Santa Cruz and the highest point which is reached when performing one of the four days trekking. Tourists know it as the Cordillera Blanca, the Santa Cruz trek. The Peak Union is located specifically at 4,750 meters of altitude and can be accessed from Santa Cruz or from Huaripampa. From here you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the whole area. On one side you can see the entire Santa Cruz gorge, and on the other side, you can see all of Huaripampa. In addition, the Punta Union is a great place for contemplation as it is close to major mountains in the area such as the Alpamayo or Artesonraju, which delineates the steep valley glaciers.
The snow closest to the Punta Union is the Taulliraju, which seems to be located just a few steps away, but really is much more distant. The only downside of the Peak Union is the wind which can get pretty strong. Also the fog, which is pretty frequent, can prevent the marvelous views. Fortunately when we arrived the sky was clear and there was a splendid sun.
