Great hiking by the sea

Both Tarragona and its surroundings have always been popular targets for Mediterranean pirates, especially those from North Africa who regularly assaulted the city for centuries. These days, the pirate raids have stopped but the old lookout route used to protect the city still remains intact. Of course, there aren't any guards or cannons any more, but rather forests, trails, and spectacular views of the sea. The Paso de Ronda trail goes from Tarragona to Tamarit and passes by incredible beaches like Playa Larga and Playa la Mora (you can see the spectacular castle-watchtower from the latter). The trail is not too tiring and is good for all ages and abilities.

Luxurious views from the cliffs

Paso de Rona (or Camí de Rona) are the old paths they used to keep a look out for possible pirate attacks. The trails are currently a beautiful and comfortable way to explore the coastline. We did a stretch from Playa la Mora to Tamarit along the part they call the "Pirate's Path" which, while a little more tricky to walk, offers from really luxurious views from the cliffs. The trails are full of families and just about anybody walk do them.
