1 review of Bidassoa Walkway

A cycling or walking route

This wooden walkway, opened in 2014, is 880 meters long and 4 meters wide, links Joncaux (Behobie) and Hendaye neighbourhoods, a total of 10km track, where we enjoyed a beautiful view to walk or bike, up to Gemelas, on Hendaye beach. They're currently building a pedestrian elevator at the International Bridge Irun-Hendaye, for direct access to the gateway. If not, another option is to start from the bridge to the Behobia "bidegorri" (bicycle lane) bordering the river Bidasoa, passing near the Isle of Pheasants, under the International Bridge, until you reach the Puerto de la Caneta. It is here, where a part of the cycle path ends, the last 200 meter stretch that is yet to be put up in the city, so we have to invade the road a few meters to link to the Bay Trail to reach Gemelas.

For the more energetic, here a new cycle lane begins on the road from the Corniche, indeed, a wonderful place where we can enjoy the flysch and small coves. Otherwise, from the Behobia bridge, we head towards Pamplona, where another 39km path begins, the greenway Bidasoa. It is a lovely, but very busy walk where pedestrians have right of way.
