Poitou-Charentes
Everything makes you think that time has stopped
Parthenay is an ancient city that is hidden behind a bridge and the gates of its medieval wall... It seems like the Braveheart set! Once you cross the river Thouet, it seems to become a different atmosphere, perhaps another time. Every corner of the city has dozens of Gothic art treasures that are part of the living testimony of thousands of pilgrims from all over France. Entering through the Citadel door, you soon realize that time seems to have stopped in Parthenay. You can see a fantastic view of the St Paul neighborhood and down to Thouet. Ste-Croix Church and Notre-Dame-de-la-Couldre church are two good examples of Romanesque architecture typical of Poitou.
Going around every corner, street and square is the Museum Georges Turpinn or Vau-rue St-Jacques, with former high street facades carved into wood. Now you've stepped back in time!
