Parque Anglia

El Parque Inglés de la ciudad de Komárno (“Anglia Park” en idioma húngaro) es uno de los principales sitios al aire libre de la ciudad eslovaca a orillas del Danubio. Se trata del sitio por excelencia para los locales que durante los fines de semana se reúnen para hacer picnics en el lugar. Su principal ingreso se encuentra a un costado del “Pabellón Oficial”, en pleno casco histórico de la ciudad. La historia del parque tiene mucho para ofrecer. Durante el Siglo XIX, el sitio sirvió como base militar, y durante años se llevaron a cabo aquí celebraciones y eventos conmemorativos durante los aniversarios importantes para la historia eslovaca. En el centro del parque se encuentra una estatua dedicada al compositor Franz Lehár, quien nació en la ciudad de Komárno cuando ésta aún formaba parte del Imperio Austrohúngaro. Lehár es principalmente conocido por sus operetas, pero durante su vida también sirvió en el ejército imperial. Otro monumento importante del parque es el del Rey Alberto I de Habsburgo, a quien se le reconoce el refuerzo de los territorios de la casa de los Habsburgo durante su reinado. Su estatua incluye una corona simbólica que no llega a tocar su cabeza, simbolizando su intento infructuoso por convertirse en Emperador del Sacro Imperio Romano Germánico.

The English Park of the city of Komárno ("Anglia Park" in Hungarian language) is one of the main outdoor sites of the Slovak city on the banks of the Danube. It is the place par excellence for the locals that during the weekends gather to make picnics in the place. Its main entrance is to one side of the "Official Pavilion", in the historical center of the city. The history of the park has so much to offer. During the 19th century, the site served as a military base, and for years celebrations and commemorative events were held during important anniversaries for Slovak history. In the center of the park is a statue dedicated to the composer Franz Lehár, who was born in the city of Komárno when it was still part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Lehár is mainly known for his operettas, but during his life he also served in the imperial army. Another important monument of the park is the one of King Albert I of Habsburgo, who is recognized the reinforcement of the territories of the house of Habsburgo during its reign. His statue includes a symbolic crown that does not touch his head, symbolizing his unsuccessful attempt to become Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire Germanic.
