Where St Patrick performed his baptisms
Tradition has it that St. Patrick baptized the first Irish Christians at a well located here in St Patricks Park with water from the river Poddle which still runs under the park to this day. A small wooden church was built here to commemorate the event. The parish church was known as St. Patrick de Insula which means "St. Patrick on the island" because it was located on an island between two branches of the river Poddle. In 1191, John Comyn, the first Anglo-Norman Archbishop of Dublin, gave the church the status of a collegiate church and expanded it. The park is next to the cathedral and, like
