Nice beach

Parangtritis Beach, located 35 kilometers south of Yogyakarta, is the favorite beach of Indonesians to come to rest over the weekend, away from heat and bustle of the city. If you want the beach all to yourself, you´re guaranteed to have that on a weekday, but even on the weekend you´ll be able to find a quiet corner due to the size of the beach. I climbed up the cliff that overlooks the sea to see the view, which was nice, and I was able to meet local people who had harvested rice in front of their house. They told me the beach was sacred and had special powers. There were also several booths selling food, fried fish and rice dishes as well as drinks and ice cream.

When I was there the sea was a bit rough so I did not swim or stay the night. I can´t recommend accommodation, but it will surely be like the rest of Sumatra with very low prices for a pretty good quality (compared to Bali). You can also rent horses for riding or taking a carriage to watch the sunset and admire the scenery.
