Pigs for sale!
One of the "technical" stops we made made in the Dominican Republic was in the Parador La Lechoza in the small village of Benerito. It´s located on the same road you take from Higüey to La Romana. There was the usual souvenir shop that sold sarongs, beachwear, sows, typical painting you see throughout the island, objects made of carved wood, and all kinds of key chains and other small souvenirs. Next to the small store was a buffet style restaurant with typical Dominican food. What is most striking (which we saw several times along the road) is the peddlers selling whole roasted pigs (in one-piece) in a kind of portable furnace.
