Palace that is now a museum with architecture influences from Africa, Turkey and Italy
Bardo Palace is one of the most visited places in Tunisia, as it houses an amazing archaeological museum, famous for its mosaics. The building itself was declared a National Monument in the year 1985, and is one of the most gorgeous palaces in Tunis. It is 4 km west of the Tunisian capital, as it was constructed as a palace of the Beys of Husain dynasty, commissioned by Sultan Al-Mustansir áfside. It was expanded many times, so there are 2 palaces together: In the late 18th century by a wealthy Tunisian exile, Ben Hadj Omar, for his summer residence, and during colonial times (early 19th century) by Joret French.
