2 reviews of Piratini Palace

Worth a visit

Next to the Metropolitan City Cathedral, you can find the Piratini Palace that was built to replace the old Clay Palace built in 1773. The building was included in the Monumental Project of the Ministry of Culture of Brazil with support from IDB and UNESCO. Its aim was to revitalize the historic centre in Brazil and since 1986 has been considered a Historical and Artistic Heritage site, and was finally listed in 2000.. With it's predominantly neoclassical style, it houses works such as sculptures by Paul Landowski, the creator of the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, as well as rarities like an old gold plated phone, a 42 meter carpet and paintings by Italian artist Aldo Locatelli.
