Campeche's independence as a state
Built in 1963, this modern building houses the state executive branches and beside it is Congress. This is the New Palace of Government, since the mid-nineteenth century (when Campeche was proclaimed independent state) it was called the "presidential palace" and consists of 3 buildings: the Maritime Customs, the Municipal Palace and the Government Palace - all in the main square. The first two were demolished, and the latter was rebuilt to house Campeche's library. 2013 commemorates the 150th anniversary of Campeche as Free and Sovereign State of Mexico.
