Civil Construction that is the oldest in Mexico
The Palacio de Cortés is the oldest civil building in Mexico as its history dates back more than 450 years since the conquest of Cortez in the year 1521. The structure was constructed in what was once the Great Hall of the inhabitants of Tlahuica city in Cuauhnáhuac. It was a public building between the years 1630 and 1635, and became a prison from 1747-1821, and an interim seat of government of the Republic of Juan Alvarez in the year 1855.
