1 review of Paimún (Parque Nacional Lanín- Neuquén) Campsite

Hiking at the base of a volcano.

Lanin National Park in the province of Neuquén (Argentina) at the campsite Piedra Mala Paimún at lakeshore at the end of the PN, entering Huechulafquen. This campground has hot water only 2 hours a day and no electricity. It is a fantastic place to spend a few days on the banks of Paimún and to be on the volcanic sand. The immensity of nature overwhelms you and you can feel in touch with her. You feel tiny at the foot of the volcano. The price is cheap for camping and the last slope to reach the camp is steep for cars, but we did it without any difficulties with an old car that wasn´t even a 4x4.

Take a long coat because even in summer it can get very cold. One day we were at the campsite we got to go on the base of Lanin. We walked to the end of the course (4km from the site) and notified the Park Ranger in Puerto Canoa. We started walking and in about 3 hours and a half we were at the base touching the sky with our hands. The ride back was longer and more complicated because Rodrigo hurt his knee and it took 6 hours, and it drizzled and sometimes the cold was very intense. When we reached the sectional we had to walk 2 hours to the campsite, in the last part of a dark forest as it was after 10pm. But the experience was worth it and I would repeat it again.
