Ostende: a place of artistic and cultural importance

Ostend is in the heart of the Belgian coast, which is the biggest city. Although not one of the landmarks of Belgium, it is 10 minutes by train from Ostend and Brugges. We can say that is a little "Belgian Benidorm" by the amount of tourism , mostly British, and to a lesser extent Dutch and German, not forgetting the Belgian. There we saw many bars, pubs and nightclubs open and people on the streets until the morning which is something not normal in these parts. One of these places is "La Siesta" , a Spanish bar, which have tapas, but is more a place to have a drink or beer rather than food as we understand it in Spain.

They offer a sangria that is ¨decaffeinated ". During the day Ostend has a flow of people, in the heart of the town there is a big business with many shops and small stores. There are also tourism centers, as it has an important artistic and cultural elements. The Cathedral (San Pedro and San Pablo) is an incredible Gothic building which has undergone many restorations (suffered a fire in the 19th century and during WWII suffered damage). Another interesting place is the training ship Mercator, in which you can find a naval museum.

A city with tidal rhythms

Une ville aux rythmes des marées

Excellent
Ostend, port city, a beautiful beach and its famous dike, designed to allow walkers to relax, terraces and shops, cuistax for the greatest happiness of the children who will circulate safely. Fishing boats, yes there are still some who bring their catches of the day to the market, and then shuttles making the crossing on the other side, and then shuttle boats of workers and engineers who install and maintain the windmills located a few miles from the coast. Moored also boats factories with cranes, just behind the station SNCB in full renovation and its huge parking by bicycle. Nostalgia, there is no more ferry ... Ostend has lost a vocation, as an organ or an essential member removed from a body. Any self-respecting port must keep a door open on the outside. remains on these rash navigators crossing the seas, establishing on their way a halt in this haven of peace that is the marina, coming to greet the school ship, magnificent sailboat 3 mats ... the Mercator, floating symbol of Ostend , recently returned to the quay for the greatest joy of the families who will visit it. There is the city, its districts of course, but everything is arranged with this port in its center, and its beach opened on the wide ... A bit like a world between two shores, between dreams and realities. Between past and future, history here also left traces and symbols.

Ostend and the Belgian coast

Ostende y la costa belga

Excellent
The majority of Hispanics traveling to Belgium visit Brussels, Bruges and Ghent. And it"s fine, but Belgium is more than that. A visit to the Belgian coast is worthwhile. Ostend is the most important city on the coast. Do not miss it http://diriodeunaburrido.blogspot.be/2017/05/ostende.html
