Orvieto
The city of Orvieto is perched on a rock overlooking the plain, through which flow the Rivers Paglia and Chiani shortly before merging with the River Tiber. This huge brown tuff platform, rising to fifty feet above the surrounding terrain was created by the action of various volcanic actions. All the rock of Orvieto is pierced by a thousand wells, galleries and artificial caves at differing levels, some of which have been improved and as such and are accessible to tourists.
