5 reviews of Orléans-Borbón Palace

An unusual palace

One of the most unusual I palaces I've ever seen. Currently it occupies the city but it was designed in the late XIX century as a summer residence for the Dukes of Montpensier. It's at the top of Sanlucar de Barrameda, at the top of a steep slope leading to the center of the lower city. In 1870 there were houses here that were remodeled without being pulled down, this explains why the inside is a maze. The outside is enclosed by a wall protecting the English-style gardens. Inside is the local library, a little small for my taste. The front of the palace gives an idea of what it is, a marvel. Externally it looks Neo-mudéjar with some classical touches.
