Founded in 1868 it offered symphonic excellence, the Tonhalle is known for its good acoustics and has two auditoriums: the largest has a capacity of 1,455 and the smaller 636. Part of the Kongresshaus Zürich was built in 1895 and the concert chamber was opened by Johannes Brahms.
