Open Air War Museum
You can find this war museum in Turanj, a suburb of Karlovac. 58 km southeast of Zagreb and on the road to Plitvice Lakes, where the war began, this part of Croatia suffered one of the toughest battles of the former Yugoslavia War which made Karlovac into a symbol of Croatian resistance against the Serbian advances. This open air museum is by the road and entry is free. In it we find tanks, planes and amphibious vehicles. Dilapidated houses also belong to the museum, and serve as a painful memory, not only for them but for all of us. But we see reminders throughout the rest of the town where we see the remnants of this conflict, either in commemorative monuments or in the facades of still-inhabited houses.
