Omonia Square

Leaving the Central Market in Athens and walking down the street, one will get to Omonia Square, which is said to be the oldest of the city. Is surrounded by bars and fast-food places and you can see people of all ages around. There was a time when Omonia was really nice and was a cornerstone of the city. If you go down to the Omonia metro station you can see photos of the square in its golden years. On several occasions, the council has tried to renovate the square to make it more civilised and popular again for citizens. The center has several open areas to sit, relax or meet friends. The last renewal is, according to locals, a little odd because no one knows if it is finished or not.

I got off the bus from the airport here and did not realise its significance. I later discovered that the place has historical importance, but honestly it is not worth staying more than 5-10 minutes.
