Money well spent

When you go to buy the entry ticket, the 10 euros seem expensive. However, once you start to visit the different rooms, you soon realize that it was money well spent. There are different types of entry tickets for various types of visits, each with its own price. You can get them in the building outside the Patio e Escuelas. My advice is to begin by the Auditorium , then make your way to the Clock Tower ,

The Chapel of San Miguel , and finishing up at the Joanina Library .

University Town

Coimbra is a university town and the most famous landmark is the Old University, founded in 1290. It's in the highest part with an excellent vantage point. Around is the Baroque Patio das Escolas, a clock tower and a statue of Joao III. In front of the tower is a coated tile chapel and a stunning Baroque library.

Hard to forget

Topped by a distinctive tower and distributed around the Patio de Escuelas, there are jewels like Joanina Library (Baroque) and the Chapel of San Miguel (with its tile type carpet) - it's a must if traveling to Coimbra, birthplace of fado, and it's hard to forget.

Library and museum cryptoprticus bats.

A few steps from the Sé Velha, but always increased by the multiplier effect of the slope (sure there's a formula to effect direct proportionality), all imperialist university complex, and Manueline imperial character of the one part, and y Salazar on the other. Each according to taste and decide what time but essential Baroque and chinoiserie Joanina library, although some spend more time searching for the invisible bats enjoy three stunning rooms. A surprise trip really is the Machado de Castro Museum, although overly focused on religious art can be something tiresome has a modern structure with elegant presentation that enhances the experience and has the attraction of being located on a lot of history own. In this regard it is highly recommended to visit the foundations of the ancient Roman Forum and subsequent episcopal palace: the museum cryptoporticus, visited independently of the main body and can be completed with a stop at the coffee-gazebo, or even eat with acceptable quality for all 7 € menu. TODO museum staff a paragon of kindness: just who to consult something that desvivan to tell all they know; or just hang out is?, since neither is that the museum is crowded. In any case it is appreciated that deal so far from the civil service to use.

The University of Coimbra is located on...

The University of Coimbra is located on top of a hill, there are several options to go up there, by bus at No. 1, with a stop at the Porta Railway, by car, or for those who are on a walk, either on the stairs either on the steep slopes through the old town. When we crossed the railroad carrier, access a huge patio, which highlights the Goat Tower, the bell tower of the university chapel with a height of 33 meters, just on the opposite side, a viewing point where we can enjoy the best views of Coimbra. Once inside the building the most notable are the gallery latina and the Capelos room, richly decorated and where the pictures representing different professors paracen we are examining. That if, if you visit the interior of the university do not go on Sunday because closed.

Summer visit of the University of Coimbra

Visite estivale de l'Université de Coimbra

Excellent

A place full of stories

Um lugar cheio de histórias

Excellent

The University of Coimbra is a place not to be missed. Located in height, it offers a magical view of the city. You can visit any university, but it is not free. Prefer pass sold in one of the city's museums. For cons, the library (which requires a small fee) is not great but requires a long wait!

Travelling to Coimbra

Viajar a Coimbra

It was a surprise to know that my daughter would leave work at Coimbra, parents are not prepared to march our children ... and when the reason is the lack of work in Spain; seems normal (at least that is what hear every day), but it is not. I made a mental effort and decided to enjoy this experience with the best possible mood. It's been a few months and despite the distance I can tell you many reasons to visit this city. Coimbra has a special charm, seems anchored in time, with cobbled streets, small family bars in the old town, pastry as it had in Spain 30 years ago, friendly and simple people ... the Mondego river and the University .. How wonderful ..;! not only because the set is declared World Heritage cultural diversity but you are and the ability to share precious time with boys and girls in Japan, Macao, India, Poland ..... It's great .. my daughter to visit and share their experiences, which are a bit mine!

There are a few steps to access it. Very good atmosphere. Recommendable.

One of the largest and most respected universities in the world.

One of the largest and most respected universities in the world. Situated at the top of the city, where is the university clock that is as old as the building itself. Gigantic construction and wonderful architecture. There is also the 500-year-old Johannine library, where the book written by Luis de Camões (Os Lusíadas) is preserved. Many stories are told about this university.
