Old Sarum
About 3 miles from Salisbury are the ruins of Old Sarum. This site is the home of the city of Salisbury. It was first inhabited in the Neolithic area, then by the Romans, and later by the Saxons. The site is located on a small hill surrounded by a large moat. On the edge of the moat are the remains of the cathedral, but the only remains are plants. The people of Salisbury come here to walk their dogs. Very little of the fort remains, just a few pieces of wall and not much else. Luckily there is a small plaque beside each wall explaining what it is, because it would require a lot of imagination to realize that 3 stones is a kitchen or that 4 is a tower.
