The Monastery of San Juan de la Peña

23 reviews of The Monastery of San Juan de la Peña

A perfect guided visit

I simply want to say how well the guided visit seemed to me. Detailed, well documented, entertaining and interesting, the half hour (or was it an hour?) flew by and I could have spent much more time engrossed in the explanations. It was obvious that the guide enjoyed it, and we left there delighted.

Since then I take much more notice of details when I visit a monument of this type, and in particular, from the Romanic era. Excellent, it was the best thing in five days in Aragon.

The monastery of San Juan de la Peña and routes

Excellent

To get to the monastery you have to go up until you get to an esplanade because it is in the middle of the road and you are not allowed to stop there. That’s why once you are on the esplanade you have the possibility of catching a bus which will take you to this site. However, another alternative exists which I only recommend for those who do not tire easily. It is a path of about 2 Km which ascends to the monastery, the inconvenience is its steep slope.

The best thing of all is that on the same esplanade there are small routes, some taking no more than 5 minutes, with spectacular views.
