Surprising, to say the least
Fountains play an important role in Swiss cities and Bern was no different. There are 11 along the main street, Market Street, and each for a different reason. Their origin is medieval and they were a natural part of everyday life of the city for centuries. This neighborhood had criers, they discussed the gossip, etc. One of the most popular is the Fountain of the Ogre - a wicked ogre who devours children like pipes. Surprising, to say the least.
