Hiking to the end

What’s this – you can’t drive to the water? That’s right – anyone wanting to experience tip-of-the-island seclusion has to walk the last mile or so to make it to this gem of a park. Obstruction Pass looks over Obstruction Bay, Obstruction Island, and the busy boating channel between Orcas Island, Lopez Island, San Juan Island, and the mainland at Anacortes. A barely-marked trail winds through coastal forest to a beautiful stretch of and campsites available only to boaters or hikers. Though civilization is not far away – there’s actually a house in the park and a line of homes not far from the forest

– the park has a great secluded feel to it.
