I guess you already know how Americans feel about men in uniform. Since the Twin Towers fell, cops are everywhere and are dressed in different types of clothes depending on their particular job (traffic control, subway surveillance, port authority, patrol cars...). They don't lack kindness and, especially around the area of Times Square, are happy to pose on horseback for photographs.
