Nuraghe Losa : elegant and powerful!

The Nuraghe Losa is one of the better conserved and more easily accessible nuraghic complexes in Sardinia. It’s located in the province of Oristano on the SS131 that connects Cagliari and Sassari. It’s one of the most compact and elegantly-structured nuraghe that I've ever seen and to get up close and feel dwarfed by the massive (and perfectly placed) stones is quite an experience.

Built of basalt, the Nuraghe Losa consists of a central tower and a protective wall with three outer towers, but it lacks the central courtyard found in more complex nuraghe. A giants’ tomb is also located nearby and the whole area is surrounded by a gigantic wall.

A Bronze Age wonder

When you visit Nuraghe Losa, you can't help but feel an almost magical sensation. You're seeing an archaeological complex which, according to most estimates, was built in the 14th century BC during the late Bronze Age. These type of megalithic constructions (known as "nuraghis") are a key part of Sardinian heritage and could be considered a symbol of the island. The Nuraghe Losa is a bit different in structure from your typical nuraghe, a fact which makes it all the more interesting. I'd highly recommend a visit.

Nuraghe Losa in Abbasanta

This is one of the most important Nuraghe complexes in Sardinia. In fact, the whole area around the nuraghe is stunning. The exterior tower is stunning, but just wait until you go inside and see the stone ceiling.
