Nevado del Ruiz

Este volcán nevado se encuentra a 5.400 mts. De altura sobre el nivel del mar; hahecho tres erupciones, la primera en 1595, la segunda en 1695 y la tercera en 1985, destruyendo la población de Armero (Tolima) con sus 25.000 habitantes. Se localiza en el municiìo de Líbano, en el Tolima y el departamento de Caldas en Colombia, a 52 Km. De la ciudad de Manizales (Caldas) por la carretera al Magdalena, adentrándose por una de las vías carreteras más altas del mundo, llegando en carro hasta los 4.800 mts. Sobre el nivel del mar. El nevado es cubierto por un gran volumen de nieve, pero actualmente se encuentra expuesto a los fenómenos del calentamiento global, causándole gran pérdida en su volumen de nieve. Al lado de este volcán nevado se encuentran otros dos nevados Cisne y Santa Isabel de los cuales uno ya ha desaparecido casi totalmente a consecuencia del calentamiento global. Todos los días desde la ventana de casa tengo el privilegio de verlos cuando las montañas están despejadas y créanme que me siento feliz y a la vez nostalgica de ver como su masa de nieve va disminuyendo con el paso del tiempo. Es realmente una vista maravillosa, por ello siempre que puedo le tomo fotografías. En los alrededores de este bello monumento natural se encuentra la Laguna del Otún y allí se halla la Laguna Verde, que es un lugar hermosisímo, hay también aguas termales que son medicinales.
