La Serra Gelada Natural Park

A great walk…

Excellent

If you have the chance to visit Alfas del Pi, don’t miss the chance to check out this short yet wonderful route. It’s a 2.5km trail to the lighthouse along a paved road and you’ll see lots of people on the way. But, it’s surrounded by the Mediterranean sea and unequalled natural beauty. Of course, the return trip is 2.5km as well, so make sure to bring something to eat and a cold drink and you can have a picnic fit for a king at the end of the trail.

A tough but rewarding walk

Only a few minutes’ walk from Albir Beach in Alfaz del Pí, you’ll find the entrance to this natural park that offers one of the most rewarding hikes in all of the Costa Blanca.

The idea is to walk until you reach the lighthouse, a trip which takes about an hour if you go at a good pace. You can, of course, also go by bike, but come prepared as the trail is somewhat tough due to the heat. But it’s worth it. The trail has viewpoints scattered throughout which give great views and there are also some benches along the way to sit down and take a rest.

I really recommend taking something

Trails along the cliffs

The Serra Gelada Natural Parks encompasses 6 hectares, the majority of which is a marine environment from Benidorm, lÁlfás de Pí, and Altea.

There are two trails inside the park that go along the cliffs: the route that goes from Albir beach to the ancient lighthouse (about an hour) and the one that goes from Albir beach to Benirdorm, along the coastal cliffs (about 4 hours).

Hiking

A day of hiking. Be sure to bring sándwiches, a camera, a good pair of shoes, and good company. We started off at 11 in the morning and we were able to hike up to the top calmly. It took us about an hour to reach the peak, if I remember right. From there, we took another path to Benidorm.

We had a great time. The view are spectacular, you’re always next to cliffs, walking with no rush, stopping to eat and to enjoy the scenery. We finally arrived at Benidorm at 5 pm.

Gorgeous walk

Excellent

If you go to Albir we recommend you take the path to the lighthouse. It's in the Natural Park of Sierra Helada, is very pretty and is a semi-asphalted 3km road that is accessible for everyone. The views of the bay of Altea and the Rock of Ifach are stunning and from the lighthouse, they say, you can spot dolphins. Highly recommended.

Serra Gelada Natural Park

You can make the trip on foot or by bike (they rent bikes in Albir for just 10 euros for the entire day). You’ll find some incredible paths along the trail, you’ll want to stay there forever. If you’re not used to exercise, it might be a little strenuous getting up to the lighthouse, but it’s worth it. Take my word for it.
