National Theatre of Port Louis

This has been a theatre and a market. The truth is that in Mauritius, before 1822, when the market was installed in the Square Theatre, the theatre was located in the Garden of the Company until it was finally moved to its present location. It offered seven rooms of entertainment in the city before construction of the current building, since citizens have always had a great artistic interest and merriment since 1920. It was finished in 1822, making it one of the oldest in the southern hemisphere. It ceased to be private in 1851 when it was bought by the city of Port Louis. It still runs, even today.
