22,000 works from the Romans to today
The National Historical Museum is found near the ring road when you approach from Boyana, in a beautiful setting at the foot of the mountains. It was the former residence of the dictator Zhivkov. Admission is $5, and gives you access to 22,000 works showing the social, cultural and political development of Bulgaria. From the first men who inhabited the country to the era of national revival and the Bulgarian state between 1878 and 1945, from the Greeks to the Romans, from Byzantine through the middle ages, the museum is quite complete. The most incredible part for me is the collection of gold and silver treasures found in Panagyurishte and in Rogozen Trace.
