2 reviews of National Gallery of Australia

The largest in Australia

The National Gallery of Australia (Canberra) is an imposing concrete cubic structure with many corners and edges. Its construction began in 1974 and it was finally opened by Queen Elizabeth II herself in 1982. It hosts 11 galleries on three levels and a garden of sculptures. The purchase of the collection, the largest in Australia, started in 1968. The exhibits range from oils and watercolours, sculptures, votive objects, and decorative art to printed works, drawings, illustrated books, notebooks, sketches, photographs and films. It also demonstrates ceramics, costumes and textiles.

Cézanne, Picasso, Gauguin, Van gough, Monet, vieram conhecer Camberra, e encher as salas deste espaço com Pointillism, Neo-Impressionism, Synthetism, Symbolism, School of Pont-Aven, Cloisonnism, the Nabis and Intimism.
