Roadtrip on the Natchez Trace Parkway
Natchez Trace Parkway is a modern highway that traces the original Natchez Trace, a centuries-old Indian trail that runs between Natchez, Mississippi and Nashville, Tennessee. If you're thinking about an All-American roadtrip through the south, the Natchez Trace is definitely one of the most green and beautiful options around.
The parkway is surrounded by protected natural areas that span four different ecosystems. Pine groves, rivers, waterfalls...you can find a bit of everything if you pull over on the Natchez Trace Parkway! The most interesting stops along the way all related to Native Americans: the Emerald Mound and Bynum Mound sits are really unique examples of early mound-building civilizations in the Mississippi area. Another cool stop is Pigeon Roost, one of the best-preserved historic ghost towns in the state.
