The mountains reminded us how small we were

We were in Xingiang, China, and from Kashgar we went to an amazing place by Pakistan, in the foothills of Karakorum, going to see the Muztagh Ata peak 7546 meters of altitude. We spent a couple of days in its shadow, on the lovely Lake Karakul, in a small yurt camp for the the few hikers, though there was a horrible hotel constructed of concrete across the road ... "progress" -. The camp also had a shop-restaurant, served breakfast, lunch and dinner, for very cheap ... Of course, in true Chinese style. The worst was behind the bathrooms.,,we could say it was nasty. But apart from that .... The place is gorgeous, the lake is different shades depending on the time, reaching a lovely turquoise blue ...

Close by, driving an hour or so, we find herds of yaks, birds, and the grandiose mountains, all with huge glaciers ... They were the only man-made buildings are made of adobe, and more painstaking for the graves, which for the houses they live. In fact, the cemeteries have a vaulted architecture, elaborate fences ... Everything in miniature adobe, but really nice. The people, are friendly and they were surprised at our presence, or at least they were not grateful with the crowd. They move by motorcycle, between one people and another, and in fields that work with their hands (no machinery). And always mountains witness stunning, remind us how small we are, how precious Earth is and how bad the care ...
