Great wines and preserves
Muy Placer en Conserva is small cafe in Madrid’s Conde Duque neighborhood which has put a modern twist on a time-honored Spanish culinary classic: canned food. Now, for many of us from the English-speaking world, the idea we have of canned food is usually of bad tuna fish or basic provisions for surviving a nuclear war. That’s not the case in Spain. The Spanish have turned preserves into an art form, most notably when it comes to seafood, but also with vegetables, meats, fruit, even nuts! Well, at Muy Placer en Conserva, everything on the menu is straight from the can, we’re just lucky that those cans happen to be from some of Spain’s best preserve manufacturers!
You can find everything from classic Spanish tostas and melt-in-your-mouth mussels in escabeche to more elaborate dishes like bean salads and artisan cheese plates. They have a small but well-thought menu but also feature seasonal specials so make sure to ask your server for recommendations. To wash it all down, they have an excellent selection of Spanish wines (not just your usual Riojas and Ruedas either, but also some true gems from some of the country’s less-famous wine regions), Spanish craft beers, and vermouth.
