1 review of The Beacon Museum

Interactive Museum and archive of Whitehaven

Excellent

The Beacon is a museum and local archive in an interesting circular building reminiscent of a lighthouse. It's in the west of the port and has a cafeteria. The museum covers the history relevant to the Copeland area, one of the regions that comprise Cumbria, without excluding Whitehaven, the main city of this area. The tour is divided into 5 floors, each covering specific times of local history, the most relevant being the sea related. It also works as a congress hall, with rooms available (for a fee) and usually houses the town's most important cultural events. Everything is very interactive and well explained by the guides, which makes it a very frequented by schools and colleges.
