Comics painted on the buildings!
The comic capital could not possibly only show their creative genius in museums. Angouleme's streets are filled with pictures and colours in a tribute to comics and artists. Since 1998, several murals featuring characters from comics have brightened the city. They are the work of an association of muralists, the Cité de la Création. I recommend to discover them randomly. The surprise is even greater when you don't expect them. The largest concentration of these painted walls is between the city centre and the Place St. Martial, and also between Place du Champ-de-Mars and the station. More than twenty scenes appear on the sides of buildings.
As a complement to the murals and with the objective of further immersing Angoulême into the world of comics, since 1997 the city has been changing over a thousand street signs into "sandwich" form. No doubt that Angouleme is the international capital of comics.
