Municipal Palace
The town of Motovun, or Montona in Italian, 1278-1797 belonged to the Republic of Vececia, which was at the time the Austrian Empire 1797-1803. In 1803 the French occupied the Republic, and they managed it from Trieste. It became Italian again until 1947 when it was part of Yugoslavia and Croatia in 1991. To create a city that would be similar, there was the municipal palace, which developed its role through the centuries and the different administrations. The town's city hall is the largest Renaissance building in the region of Istria. It is surrounded by many historical buildings. It hasn't been a very important town in history, but nonetheless, UNESCO recognized it as part of the World Heritage Site for its medieval plan, which is still present and superbly preserved, including the city hall.
