Municipal Market Avenue

In Lagos there are two municipal markets, on the Avenue and San Amaro. The Avenue Market is located on the waterfront (Avenue Of the Discoveries), a few steps from the Plaza Gil Eannes, making it one of the busiest. It was opened in 1924. It is a food market, consisting of two stories: On the ground floor are the meat and fish stalls, and on top of fruit and vegetables. There is an area of stairs that leads from one floor to another, and in that spot, you will notice a colorful mosaic mural by artist Xana. It also has a terrace on the roof of the building, which has a dual functionality:- one side of the roof offers an excellent vantage point to get a great view of the seafront and the port, and the other side is a very convenient access (via the market´s lift) to the upper area of ​​the city, avoiding the steep streets.
