Mundaka is the paradise of surfing in Spain, with the best waves for those who love this sport.
It is also a beautiful and calm town, one of those villages of the Basque Country that is worth visiting for their beauty. The surroundings are spectacular, since it’s located inside the Urdaibai reserve.
Other nearby towns worth visiting close to Mundaka are Bermeo and Lekeitio. The food is excellent, although a bit expensive since they take advantage of tourism.
The beach of Laidatxu is a surfer’s beach par excellence. How many surfers go in search of the “Mundaka wave”?
The beach has soft and dark sand and has every service needed. The surroundings are also impressive. It’s worth having a walk in the town and eating near the charming fishing port; the Biosphere Reserve of Urdabai is very close, where construction is limited.
It is amazing to see the green of the vegetation going down to meet the sea.
The bay of Urdaibai is a beautiful place where you can spend nice moments on the edge of the sea and enjoy the beautiful views from the hillside.
From Mundaka, where you can find surfers of all ages, or stopping in Bermeo or Guernika, you shouldn’t miss the opportunity of seeing the Caves of Santimamiñe, a spectacle that’s worth the trip. In a gathering with friends, and taking advantage of the movement of the clouds, I was able to photograph the moonlight.
